MLB Network analyst Mitch “Wild Thing” Williams joined the show to talk about the big stories around baseball.

Williams broke down Josh Hamilton’s four-home run game.  Williams said pitchers have no chance against the Rangers star right now: “He’s on everything right now. You look at what he’s doing … when a guy like him gets in a groove … it is tough to get him out.”

Williams thinks the Rangers should give Hamilton a big contract. “From a marketing standpoint, if I’m the Texas Rangers, there’s no way I can let him go,” Williams said. “Before Josh Hamilton go there, there were no World Series in Texas.”

Williams said Hamilton’s recent relapse shouldn’t scare them away. “It was a personal failure,” Williams said. “He didn’t get in a car. He failed himself and that’s something he has to deal with.”

Williams reiterated, the Rangers don’t have a choice. “The fan base adores Josh Hamilton,” Williams said. “He has put the Rangers on the map and you have to reward him for that.”

Williams also weighed in on Cole Hamels. He said hitting Bryce Harper was weak. “I can count on one hand the number of guys I hit on purpose in my career and I never hit someone for no reason,” Williams said.

Williams agrees with Jim Leyland that MLB should have suspended Hamels for more than five games. “Old school is you hit someone to protect your players or if someone has shown you up,” Williams said. “You don’t hit someone just because they’re a talented rookie.”
