Dan started by asking his title. “My title is executive director of the BCS until the BCS goes away,” Hancock said. “Then I’ll be executive director of “son of BCS” or whatever [it's called].”
Hancock said he doesn’t know what the new system will be called. “I don’t think you go out and create a cute name,” Hancock said.
Hancock explained that the committee that would pick the final four teams will be modeled off the NCAA committees that currently exist for other sports. He said somewhere between 10 and 20, with every conference having a representative, with perhaps some at-large members to fill in.
Hancock said that they will make plenty of tools available to the group, including the coaches’ poll, but they can use what they want. Things like the coaches’ poll will likely no longer automatically be part of the process.
Hancock said that there was no interest in an eight-team or 16-team playoff, and there’s no way that’s going to change until at least 2026.
